Sierra Leone, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Nebraska USA, Peru, Colombia…
These are just some of the places students have traveled from to study at NBC. The experience they have had while being here justifies the miles they have traveled but they are not the only ones that have benefited from the Canadian education experience. The students and staff at NBC have also gained a new perspective. We would love to hear from you.
Admission Requirements
International students must fulfil several special criteria besides completing the same application process as Canadian students. In addition to NBC’s application process, Citizenship and Immigration Canada has some requirements which each applicant must follow if they want to enter Canada.
If you are planning to study in Canada for a total of more than 6 months, you will need to apply for a study permit. All students who wish to complete one of NBC’s programs will need to study here for more than 6 months. You can get more information about study permits by going www.cic.gc.ca.Further information about entering Canada can be found at www.canadainternational.gc.ca
Before you apply for a study permit you will need a Letter of Acceptance from the school you will be attending. NBC cannot issue a Letter of Acceptance until we receive your Application For Admission complete with all accompanying documents and the $25 application fee. We recommend that you mail in your application at least 6 months before the date you wish to begin your studies.
Financial Requirements
You will need to prove to Citizenship and Immigration Canada that you have enough money to travel to NBC and back home as well as to pay all of your tuition and residence fees. Tuition and residence fees are approximately CDN $8400 for 2007/2008.
NBC makes available a Foreign Student Scholarship each year which covers the tuition (approximately $4000) of one foreign student with a financial need. Please apply for admission and request the scholarship at least one year before you intend to begin your studies, since the scholarship recipient is decided well in advance of the school year.
More scholarship information is available in the “Finances” section under the “Future Students” tab.
Academic Requirements
Students need to submit an official copy of their transcripts from each school, college, or university they have attended. If the transcripts are not in English, then an official English translation must accompany the original.
Language Proficiency Requirements
Students whose first language is not English need to show their level of proficiency in the English language by submitting a recent TOEFL score. Students with computer-based TOEFL scores of lower than 177 (or an equivalent score in a similar test) will need to discuss their academic intentions with the registrar prior to enrolment.
Students who have studied at another post-secondary institution where the language of instruction was English may request to be exempted from the TOEFL requirement.
Health Care
Students studying in the province of Saskatchewan can register for free health care during their study period. You can find information and forms at www.health.gov.sk.ca.
