The bags are unpacked, the beds are made, and the ladies are settled in the renovated and refurbished Women's Dormitory. They are greatly enjoying the facility which was dedicated at our Opening Sunday on September 10. They especially like the slightly expanded and centrally located lounge area, which now has a mini-kitchen as well.
The finished product represents a tremendous amount of work on the part of our staff and many volunteers. Some of them helped for a few hours or for a few weeks. Some travelled long distances and some made this their working holiday. All who participated were vital to seeing the project completed.
We are also deeply grateful to the people and businesses that donated toward the project. Some of the funds were in place a long time ago and it is wonderful to see them put to use in this way. Without the generous support of God’s people this would not have been possible. The entire project cost approximately $100,000. That is a lot of money, but if you break it down it comes to about $17 per square foot. For comparison, new construction is currently $100 or higher per square foot.
In case it had escaped your notice before, this was previously the Men’s Dormitory. The ladies will now get to enjoy closer proximity to the Dining Hall and Parking Lot, and most other buildings on campus.
A Challenge to Continue
The next step in our campus development plan is the Men's Dormitory Renovation. As of January, we have about $45,000 on hand in cash and materials. The total project is estimated to cost $150,000.
“The Ten Foot Challenge”
$150,000 is a large amount. But if you break it down, it comes to only $25 per square foot. We are seeking and praying for 500 people or groups that will take up the Ten Foot Challenge. If you choose to participate in the challenge your donation of $250 will cover the cost of renovating ten square feet of the dormitory. This Renovation will see the development of another attractive and very functional residence that will serve our students, and our summer guests, for a long time to come.
We would like to be able to begin the renovation this summer, but that will be dependent upon funds. While this is a key priority, we do not want this project to take away from the General Fund. Please pray with us for some major donors to see this project go forward.
