Alumni Exec

The Alumni Exec currently consists of 5 members, in addition to an NBC staff member who serves as staff liason. Each executive member serves a 2 year term, and can be re-elected for a second 2 year term if they so wish. After a one year absence past executive members are welcome to re-run for a position on the Exec.

The Alumni Executive seeks to serve the Alumni Assocation by helping it reach its stated purposes in the Alumni Constitution.

This is a volunteer position. The hours put into this job can widely vary depending on the current Executive, how much each Exec is willing to put into the position, and many varying other conditions.

The main time-consuming responsibility of Alumni Executive in recent years seems to be planning and organizing Alumni Weekend, held every November at the college.

Here are your current Alumni Executives. Please remember them in prayer.

Reneil Larson

Reneil Larson Reneil and her husband, Barry, attended NBC in the mid 80’s. It was at NBC where they met and both grew in our relationship with Jesus. God has blessed them with five of the world’s most amazing children, as well as much joy as they have watched their children grow in their own faith and lives. Reneil enjoys volunteering and serving in many capacities: worship coordinator, worship leader, VBS, coaching soccer teams and league coordinating. She also served a term on the alumni executive during the mid 90’s.

Charlotte Thiessen

Charlotte ThiessenCharlotte was born and raised in a Christ believing home, and lived in Caronport, Saskatchewan for most of her life. She has enjoyed going on missions trips to Mexico, Scotland and England. Charlotte has enjoyed her three years at NBC very much and is sad to be done in December 2010. She hopes to continue being involved in women's ministry to some capacity in her future. Charlotte is glad for the opportunity to serve in this way because it will be a great way to keep connected with people she knows and has yet to meet. Additionally she also loves to organize and plan different events, so it will be a great opportunity to utilize the gifts God has given her.

Ryan Jansen - President

Ryan Jansen Ryan grew up in the Lost River community about 30 minutes southwest of Nipawin, and completed one year at NBC immediately after high school. He spent four years at the University of Saskatchewan where he completed his Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics. He also met and married his wife, Pam, during those years. They live just west of and both work in Saskatoon. Pam is an event planner at Events of Distinction while he is an Alternative Energy Research Engineer with the Saskatchewan Research Council. God used the time Ryan spent at NBC to change his life. A majority of his Christian friendships were developed at NBC, and God used the positive influences at NBC to develop his interests, talents, and transform his life paradigm. He feels he’s always been and will continue to be a part of NBC, and that serving on the Alumni Exec is a great way to give back to the school.

Steve Friesen

Steve FriesenSteve grew up on a farm near Hague, SK. Now living in Osler, SK, where he recently bought a house trailer. Steve is currently employed with Aerlyn Construction: they assemble steel grain bins and also put up styrofoam block basements. He attends Neunlauge Grace Mennonite Church and serves on the Mission’s committee while also part of a Sunday morning worship team. Steve enjoys sports and hands-on kind of projects. Steve feels that as an Alumnus he has an important job to fulfill for the school other Alumni. He thinks it’s easy to slip away into our own lives and become distant from the school and friends after leaving NBC, including struggling in your spiritual life. Steve thinks supporting the school and supporting our friends are important aspects of being an alumnus. Being on the Alumni Exec helps him become more involved in the school and the lives of others which promotes the school and continued friendships with each other. He hopes he can be an encouragement to others.

David Guenther

David Guenther Having been born in the Philippines, living in Far East Russia, and going to boarding school in South Korea, ending up at Nipawin might seem a strange occurrence. That is, until you mention that David is a Mennonite, Wes Fehr is his uncle, and Jenny Dyck taught his sister in Russia. Then it makes more sense. When David graduated last spring, he thought he was done with Nipawin for a while, thinking he would continue life as a university student, and those years would slowly pass away. Sometimes life has a funny way of catching you off guard, and for David that came in the form of Tim Giesbrecht contacting him about being on the Exec. David thought about it, and thought about it, and finally said, "Ok. I'm not that old, and have a lot to learn yet about life, but I'm willing to take this challenge!" He feels it’s a way for him to give back to the school.

Jason Elford – NBC staff liason

Jason ElfordJason attended NBC for 3 years from 95/96 through to 97/98. It would have been almost unfathomable at the time that he would be part of the staff 13 years later. Yet last fall when the job of Alumni Relations was created God began a work making it clear to Jason and his wife Lindsay that this is where He wanted them to be. This past August they moved to Nipawin and joined the staff at NBC. As part of his Alumni Relations job Jason serves as the NBC staff liaison between the Exec and the school. Having served 4 years as Alumni Exec president before Ryan Jansen began his term in that same position, Jason is no stranger to the Exec and looks forward to serving the Alumni in this liaison position. Please consider how you might make a continued impact at NBC as an Alumnus. We need you.
